Jet was born and grew up in Reyse, and is part of a relatively well-off noble family. With emotionally distant parents, he and his sister grew very close very quickly, and always did everything together if possible, sharing friends and lessons and pastimes. Being of the noble class, they were never really required to work at anything if they didn't want to, and Jet's lazy streak would have been completely indulged if his sister hadn't been naturally focused and hardworking, forcing him to practice and do his homework and show up to lessons on time (although he was often a bad influence on her in return). Because of his mother's obsession with societal activities and positions, he endured more than the average amount of tutoring etc. in manners and etiquette, though he took great joy in purposely being as irreverent as possible without bringing his mother's genuine wrath down on his head. His favourite lesson was always riding, though he lacked the application and inclination to pursue the sport beyond anything other than as an amusing diversion. The steady pattern of his life was interrupted only a few months ago when his sister attended Everthorne – they had never spent more than a night or so apart before. Superficially Jet coped very well with the separation, but during that time certain flaws of his came to the fore, and he became more aware of the fact that despite his cheerful and outgoing nature, he had little to no interest in forming any close emotional bonds with anyone besides his sister. For once in his life he was forced to confront the possibility of extended separation, when Topaz, being naturally hardworking, graduated from Everthorne as a mage. This put an unprecedented gap between them. Jet had always assumed that he would be able to slack his way through the Academy if he ever attended, being someone who could generally scrape by on natural intelligence, and not really caring on the occasions when he failed academically. He never expected to actually graduate and become a mage, but the possibility that he could be that distant from his sister in activities and lifestyle has caused him to realise that for the first time in his life he might have to apply himself to something. He's determined to succeed, but secretly fears that all those years of indiscipline are going to come back to haunt him. |

After Everthorne, Jet has spent his time in a most typical fashion -- working with Topaz and having the time of his life. He's allowed her to pick the direction they go in, happy to be along for the ride and pick up new friends and acquaintances along the way. As well as making sure Topaz doesn't decide to take too much of the weight of the world onto her shoulders. It was always a vague subject that the Orr son didn't get along well with his mother, and this has also become far more obvious now that he's an adult and a qualified mage. He supposedly treats her the same as he always has, if a little more coolly and with a little more avoidance, and there may have been one or two... blazing rows. But she can't deny that he's actually managed to do well for himself, and so leaves well alone. As always, Jet is happy enough, though anxiety is creeping in about the fact that being a mage can be hard work, and a worryingly permanent position. |

Jet is a cheerful, chatty optimist, who will talk to anyone and everyone about anything he can think of. Naturally honest, he has no real secrets; but despite his friendliness and openness, he rarely emotionally engages with anyone beyond his natural kindness and empathy. He sees any and all social relationships as casual, and becomes surprised if anyone expects anything more permanent and meaningful from him. As an extension of this, he is rarely offended or affected if anyone wants to back off from a friendship/relationship with him. He also has a lazy streak a mile wide in terms of academia and ambition, and is always willing to slack off in favour of having fun. He's far too used to having his sister there to make sure he gets at least a modicum of work done, though recently he has been erratically trying to better himself in preparation for Everthorne. His cheeriness can sometimes cross the line to being cheeky, and he also has a tendency to be a little overdramatic, making sudden gestures and punctuating his conversation with little personalised sounds of enthusiasm/frustration etc. |

Slim to the point of being skinny, though he is physically fit due to riding etc. He has short black hair and amber eyes that are pale enough he likes to joke they're actually orange, and his features are narrow but very expressive. |
